THE PLAN OF XX. INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL PANTOMIME OF THE DEAF 10th - 15th of November 2009 Brno, Czech republic
I. INVITATION TO THE FESTIVAL The invitation is traditionally made by the Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the Czech Republic and European center pantomime of the Deaf (ECPN) under financial support Ministry culture in Czech Republic and corporate town Brno. The festival is an official event of the World Federation of Deaf.
II. THE AIM OF THE FESTIVAL The main aim of the festival is to express the full participation of deaf people in the creation and development of dramatic arts and to support and develop the creative initiative of the deaf. The purpose of the festival is to show the very best of what can be achieved in the performing arts by deaf people and it has become a traditional parade of the best individuals and groups. This is the only international competition of deaf actors held regularly, and it gives an overview of what is going on in this field. At the same time it also strengthens the creation of the present theatre and of Czech pantomime, accessible both by hearing people and by the deaf and those with hearing difficulties. III. Saturday - Gala performance for the public, announcement of the winners and handing over of main prizes- Gala party for participant of festival 15th Nov. Sunday – departure IV. CONDITIONS FOR THE PARTICIPATION Participants shall be invited to the following categories: - performing individuals - groups of two or three performers - groups performing études, miniatures or specially composed programmes - groups performing complex dramatic programmes The festival was founded mainly for deaf artists involved in pantomime. With the consent of the organisers, the festival can also be attended by outstanding groups of deaf artists performing other genres. At the festival can also perform With the consent of the organisers, hearing collaborators can also perform at the festival if they are contributing to the realisation of the performance. Those interested in taking part in the competition in one of the categories of the festival should send in their applications for the pre-selective competition, by 15th August 2009 at the latest. The application should contain a brief scenario of the competing performance and information on the group or persons being registered, photographic documentation, etc. With application you must send video cassette with enrolment performance. Otherwise will be not your application accept. The organisers of the festival would like to improve the quality of the festival radically. In future the festival will support all physical activities of people with hearing defects. In order to be included in the selection and to participate in the festival, the applicants are unconditionally required to send us a demo recording or recording of their performance (a videotape) - herewith the applicants are included in the selection for the festival. The selection will be carried out by a group of experts. All videotapes will be returned to their owners.
V. REIMBURSEMENT OF THE COSTS The organiser will reimburse the costs connected with the stay of the individuals and groups invited, namely the board and lodging, beginning with the evening of 10th November, until the morning of 15th November, i.e. five days. In case of individuals, groups of two or three performers the organiser shall also reimburse the costs connected with the stay of a 3-member accompanying group (including the technical staff). For groups of up to 10 actors the costs connected with the stay of a 5-member accompanying staff is reimbursed, and for groups of active performers exceeding 10 actors the costs for 5-member accompanying group shall be reimbursed. If any of the participants wish to bring persons exceeding the above limit, they can do so at their own cost. Each participant is obliged to make their own travel arrangements for the home journey. The organisers of the festival cannot provide any booking services.
Notice on changes Unfortunately the economic crises has limited to a
great extent the financial contributions from our sponsors and donators . Therefore we have to determine a fee for
every festival participant in an amount of 60 €.
We will be fully able to secure your stay expenses from the fees - it
means an accommodation and a full board during the 5 days.
We trust that this our arrangement will not interfere your participation in the
festival. We would be very grateful if you can send us your formulation if you
agree with the payment of.................EUR on the e-mail address by 30.9.2009 the latest.
VI. TECHNICAL CONDITIONS The festival competition can be attended by one individual, one group of two or three performers and one larger group, (i.e. each country may have only one representation in each category). Exceptions may be permitted on the basis of the preliminary selection by the festival staff. Time limits for the individual performances: * individuals - 10 minutes * groups of two or three people - 15 minutes * larger group – max. 60 minutes If the would be participant wish to ask for an exception to the rule (extension of the time limit for the performance, participation of several soloists from one country), the request should be made as soon as possible and in writing (and enclosed with the application form). The technical rehearsals of the ensembles, groups of two or three artists, or individuals shall take place according to the time schedule handed over to the head of the group on the first day of the festival. This time schedule is binding for all participants. The theatre where the festival is to take place is fitted with the usual stage lighting units, spotlights, etc. lighting changes can be programmed. The same holds for the sound apparatus and for the usual pieces of scenery (a table, chairs). Any other special demands should be submitted in writing and enclosed with the application form. Deadline for submitting the applications: by 15th August 2009 at the latest, to the address or fax of the organiser.Applications arriving later shall not be considered. VII. THE INTERNATIONAL JURY The international jury will comprise of pantomime specialists and some international representatives. The activities of the Jury will be regulated by internal rules. Details of the proceedings of the jury and the allocation of points shall not be disclosed.
VIII. THE MAIN EVALUATION CRITERIA a) choice of topic - its originality, significance for the deaf and its artistic significance b) the technique of movement and communication - intelligibility, mastering the chosen technique of movement c) the presentation on the stage - shaping the topic on stage, personal approach. artistic contribution and the matching application of the rest of components (theatrical cosmos, sound effects, accompanying music, illumination, etc.)
IX. PRIZES Only the main prize is awarded in each category. The highest prize at the festival is the Prize of J. G. Debureau. X. THE ACTUAL REALISATION OF THE COMPETITION The participants in the competition, as the case may be the guests invited to participate in the competition, shall perform according to the actual needs of the organisers of the festival without any right to fee. The applicant must make sure authors of the plays, topics or accompanying music, directors, etc. do not wish to claim any royalties, or other compensation from the organisers of the festival. XI. ACCREDITING Any TV companies, etc. who wish to make a recording during the rehearsal, competition proper or on the premises where the festival is taking place, must ask the preparatory committee in writing and in due course the staff of the festival for accrediting. Without accrediting no recording is permitted. The use of lights snd flashes is only permitted during the rehearsals, and with the consent of the rehearsing person, or with his representative, during competition and public performances in general it is strictly forbidden to use the above light sources.
